Seeing Him is hearing Him

It the controversy of my sheep know my voice. When I meet Jesus I immediately knew that I belonged, would be taken care of, loved, a part of Gods family, had no need to fear for I was His. Though He had communicated all these things to me I didn’t hear a word with my ears. So how did I know that this was what He was saying? He just gave it to me.

I’ve had His words in my heart ever since, but how.

Hearing Him

Hearing God isn’t just what is spoken but what is received. Jesus spoke of this many times like

Rev 2:7 ‘He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes, I will grant to eat of the tree of life which is in the Paradise of God.’

When it comes to hearing Him its not what we hear but what we perceive. The scriptures talk a lot about hearing, but what is God really saying when He asks us to hear? In many instances we are being asked to listen with the intention to hear.

Mar 4:11 And He was saying to them, “To you has been given the mystery of the kingdom of God, but those who are outside get everything in parables,

For there is a hearing that isn’t heard with our ears, but with our heart. Have you ever had someone say, “are you listening to me?” or “Do you know what I’m talking about?”. This is what we see in action here.

So how does this Hearing happen?

The first message God seeks for us to hear is the Jesus is His son. Along with this is that we belong in Him. Even though I didn’t hear his voice when I met Him I knew these points clearly just by seeing Him. This recognizing Him is a vital way to hear Him. The ability to see His beauty, His faithfulness, mercy, His heart, His joy and long suffering.

Seeing Him can come in so many ways. The scriptures have always been a vital way, but how can we see and hear Him with our hearts so that we might be those who perceive and truly receive what He is sharing?

Sometimes this is a free gift like when God came to me. For this kind of hearing builds faith. It can be a message preached or an act of kindness. It can be His presence in a room, just saying He pleased and there. This communication can be heard in our worship or resonance to the revelations of what we are hearing. All this is fueled by the scripture being unveiled by God’s Spirit Himself. For there is faith that rises as we see Him.

Sometimes it’s in the pursuit of God communication comes. Studying his word and giving thanks even when you don’t feel like it. Sometimes it’s not easy but it takes faith. In all our seeking and asking we need to seek to hear and know that He will give.

Jas 1:5 But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him.
Jas 1:6 But he must ask in faith without any doubting, for the one who doubts is like the surf of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind.

There are many vehicles God uses to communicate with us. God gives me scriptures and songs to meditate on them. He gives me pictures to draw or paint, adding meditating and listening to what He is saying as I do them. He also gives me dreams. Sometimes the communication is clear and sometimes it’s a step of faith with what seems like He’s saying. Sometimes it’s audible or repeatable so I could tell you what He is saying, other times it’s a bit of a mystery but have an impression.

So whether it’s clear or a step of faith lets seek to hear and follow what God is saying as He revels Jesus.
